About

NAME kurapika CANON hunter x hunter AGE 19 HEIGHT/WEIGHT 5'7" (170cm) / 130lbs EYES gray, occasionally red HAIR blonde

kurapika is a young bounty hunter, bodyguard, as well as the head of a notorious mafia family. however, all of his occupations are means to an end for him: he has forged connections with the underbelly of society in effort to exact a very specific revenge. he is the sole survivor of the Kurta Clan, who were brutally massacred for their scarlet eyes. kurapika's only mission in life is to do anything and everything to retrieve the stolen eyes of his people, and to enact revenge on those responsible for their deaths.

while brilliant and compassionate on the inside, he is also intensely focused on avenging his clan, often making himself completely unavailable to others for long periods of time, up to and including when those close to him are in need.

he is very intelligent - he's well-read, speaks multiple languages, and is a very logical thinker.
● however, he can also be a massive flake which is why his reliability is so low. kurapika intentionally keeps people at an arm's length to stay focused on his revenge, and to keep those he cares about from getting entangled in it. he probably picks up the phone about one in every ten times, if he has a soft spot for the caller.● his drive for his goal is very intense. there's almost nothing he won't do to reach his goals. that drive has taken precedence over his own health, mental and physical; in pursuit of his goal, he has quite literally shaved off years of his life.
● he can be confident to the point of coming off as brazen to others - kurapika is straightforward, somewhat blunt, and confidently says what's on his mind, uncaring if he offends others.
● while typically level-headed, he has a relatively short temper, and is prone to acting impulsively out of anger. he's compassionate and protective (especially of kids), but resentment and rage have a strong hold on him.

Appearance

extra features of note: ruby drop-style earring on his left ear, five metal rings with chains attached on his right hand. his eyes turn from gray to scarlet when emotionally agitated, but he typically wears black contact lenses to hide this. i believe in the 1999 kurapika supremacy

kurapika's main profession is a body guard, so that can be a good starting point for a point of contact, whether your character is his coworker, who he's guarding, or etc. due to being the head honcho of a powerful mafia family, he also deals with a lot of other "criminal" world types - mafia, treasure/bounty hunters, that kind of thing, so characters with that background work well too. other than that, he's on a world trekking mission looking for sets of eyes that were stolen out of his people's bodies, so he can justifiably be working with anyone if he's following a lead on where a set of eyes might be.

he is very serious, and doesn't take care of himself well, so he goes along well with lighter hearted types that'll help him tone down his edge - or, on the flip side, my dream cross-canon cr is for him to interact with similarly revenge-driven characters.

ABILITIES

you can read about them in more organized detail here, but basically he can manifest magical chains. there are five separate "chains" on his hand, each having a different ability.

— dowsing chain: for divination and lie detection.
— holy chain: can heal his own wounds.
— steal chain: can temporarily steal abilities and bestow them on others.
— judgment chain: places restrictions on targets and kills them if they are not followed.
— chain jail: forces the person it captures into a depowered state. this ability can only be used on his in canon sworn enemies!

many of kurapika's chains can only be used effectively if he enters a state called "emperor time," where he loses an hour of his life for every second he keeps it activated. so his powers are a very double-edged sword - he shaves off a lot of his lifespan by using them.

ROMANCE/AFFECTION

18+ and m/m for anything shippy, but platonic affection is all OK! cross-canon is more than welcome. he is kind of cagey and emotionally distant plus he never answers texts (😔) so if that is the kind of drama you are looking for... look no further. due to his circumstances i'm more than open to messier/complicated relationships, like long distance, seemingly unrequited situations where he hides his feelings or something, and other tropes like that.

i'm good with injury or manipulation in threads! anything really serious in the injury department, just pm me beforehand to hash it out. as a general, i prefer not to write long fight threads.
